jwCompactor Demo

As you can see this is a demo of the jwCompactor module which allows you to place several modules into a single position. The modules are packed together using jQuery and Anicollapse. So instead of a chunky collapse animation, there is a smooth transitional animation to hide unused modules.

Financial crisis will claim a few heads

If you haven't heard the news you have probably been hiding under a really big rock. The world is facing a global recession and possibily a depression. Apart from the fact that I am loving the freelance work from the US (due to the USD to AUD exchange rate), it also means my server in Montreal, Canada is at risk due to the huge conversion rate.

There are a few ramifications involved with this price difference, and I will explain them.

Firstly, alot of my work is freelance and always when I have a little spare time outside of work. I don't do freelance around the clock as my sole income, infact freelancing used to barely cover the lease on my server. Now, freelancing is starting to become harder to do because more has to be done in a effort to stay afloat.

Now if I did not have a string of personal projects in the works I would definitely consider going on hiatus until the financial crisis bounces back. But, there is also an opportunity for those of us who are in the same position.

With this risk there are a number of outfits who may infact go under due to this downturn in global economies. Because of this there is a chance more work can be sourced via freelancing, unfortunately these freelancers may pay a little less than usual (because they have wallets and budgets too).

So if you are reading this, and considering closing up. Have a think about this:

Consider cutting the costs, everywhere you can! Be smart about your clients you take on board. Are they value for money or are they going to cost you money and time you could be spending on new sales. And here is the big one to help you save some cash. If you are going to buy products, software, lease hosting, try and find it in your own country or for your own native currency. Meaning, if there is a host in your country who owns their own gear locally, they will be unlikely to raise their prices due to higher costs on that equipment.

I for one, am probably going to downgrade the server to keep up the conversion as painless as possible. Oh, and yes, I am looking for freelance work by the way.Cool
